iPhone 2g frozen!!!!

i have an iPhone 2g and it has frozen. i have tried to reboot it and it froze on the screen where i need 2 slide the red bar, now it wont switch off, the screens blank with the time and battery bar at the top, i cant answer calls although it rings without any sound can someone help?????

Hold power and home until the phone crashes. Then power it back up. This is referred to as a hard reset.

hiya thnx 4 that but it still doesn't switch off...i was thinking about restoring it but my phone is unlocked so i would have to update it which means locking it back to O2.....
