Grreat, boot loop
DISCLAIMER: I know that GeoHot worked very hard on his unlock, and I respect him and his work.
That being said, I am over this crap! I've read all over the webz about WiFi issues associated with his unlock, but he refuses to fix it. As far as I am concerned BlackSn0w should be considered BETA. I had used his unlock, since it allowed for tethering, which I did use every so often. But then all of the sudden, my WiFi is going in and out, which is not that big of a deal to me. But then I follow his f***ing advice and reset my network settings, and BAM boot loop. I had some pics of my son on there that I just took, that I won't get back. That is about as irritating as it gets.
Now, I don't mean for this to sound like an all out rant against GeoHot, but seriously? I'm pretty p*ssed off right now.
Does he need to fix it? IMO, yes. Will he? No. There are other threads across multiple sites and forums that have the same EXACT issue as I, but so far no fix other than restoring.
I have no way of confirming this, but I believe it is the patched commcenter that is causing the issue. The sites that detail how to patch CommCenter state that if something is miffed in the process, a restore is required.
I've tried the whole iTunnel (to try to SSH w/o WiFi since there is no WiFi currently on the phone) with no avail. DiskAid doesn't work. Fr0zenW1nd is not fixing it (though it is reporting that it is :-P ). iREB really has no business in this situation (Since it fixes recovery loops, not boot loops), but I still tried with no luck.
As I type this, I am downloading a 3.1.2 IPSW and am most likely going to restore. But GeoHot claims that his software is not causing any of the aforementioned issues. I say that he should at least take a second look, since he is still distributing his s/w as a RC3, and not a Beta1!
//Rant
Anyone run into this issue? I know now to not use his unlocks anymore, but will hope that he updates them such that they don't cause an issue like this again
EDIT: So I am restoring now... GRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEATLast edited by Imahottguy; 12-15-2009 at 10:10 AM.
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

I know how you feel. I didn't unlock my iPhone, but my iPhone 3G has the infinite boot loop, and won't restore no matter what I do.
It sucks!I am not a jailbreak n00b
I like to drink iPhoneahol...

I used blackra1n and have the same issue with losing WiFi periodically. I usually get it back by turning off and on WiFi, but sometimes I have to reset network settings. I would be miffed too if this caused a boot-loop.

The thing that sucks most is that I don't think there is any way, other than a restore, to fix it. You can easily fix a boot loop by performing a DFU restore. However, keep in mind that it is still a resptre so you lose all of your hacks and whatnot

I had the boot loop problem on my iPod Touch 3G 8gig after blackra1n. I don't know exactly what I did but I just kept trying different home-power/sleep key combos and got it to restore...

Do you follow his Twitter? He is 100% certain that his software is not to blame. That is why I was/am so irritated with him.
Why do you mean "unlicensed s/w"?And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

so in a way ure saying that its ok to continualy restore because of software that claims its 100% working when its not i dont get how he says its not his software when ure wifi is ok untill you run geo's software 2ndly if you get apple to unlock your phone like in uk if ure on o2 and out of contract apple will unlock your phone no issues with wifi so its clearly his software thats creating a problem in the software code somewhere
