White Stripe On Screen - HELP!!!

I got an iphone 2G running 3.1.2. When I use my iphone for long periods of time, a half inch white stripe forms on the upper left corner of the screen. But when I turn off my phone for a while then back on again, the white stripe is gone, but only for a short time before it re-emerges. The rest of the screen looks fine except for this white stripe. This never happened to me. How do I fix this?

sounds like pixels going bad or, a strip of the phones touch screen is dying out. If a restore does not help, take it to apple, even though your warranty might be done, they still may replace the phone for you if they see the white strip on the screen
