I bought my iphone already jailbroken and unlocked. now i want to upgrade to 3.1 but my phone was never synced to my Itunes. is there a way to save all my info? (apps, contacts, etc) so i wont have to buy them again
you can sync it to itunes and transfer your purchases on your iphone to itunes; also set up to have your contacts sync with microsoft outlook (assuming you have it) as backup. or if you have gmail, you can set it up as an exchange account to have it wirelessly sync with your gmail account
When I try to sync it says that my iPhone is synced with a different iTunes so it will erase all my stuff and replace it with my stuff on my iTunes. Which is nothing
ah ok well, if i were you, i'd sign up for a mobileme free trial and sync my iphone's contacts/calendars with my pc so that is backed up that way (this is assuming you don't have gmail. if you have gmail you can set up that account as an exchange account for wireless sync). as for your apps, you'll just have to redownload them after you restore to the newest firmware and jailbreak. you won't have to pay for them again. this is my solution. not sure if there's a better/easier one out there
Use iPhonebrowser or a SSH method to navigate to the folder "Library" in your iPhone. /var/mobile/Library
Save that folder on your computer, it has a lot of your settings that you can just copy onto your newly formatted phone.
For pics on your camera roll /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE will have those.
You won't be able to get music off of it this way or apps. If you have all the music you want on your computer, don't worry about it then. Any apps you have purchased on YOUR iTunes account, can be reinstalled.
EDIT: any apps you purchased can be re-downloaded at any time through iTunes without charging you again.

I can;t do that because i am having problems with my phone and i dont want the same files/settings on it after i upgrade. When my girlfriend calls me from her cell or work number, my springboard crashes and i cant answer the call at all. no one ive talked to has encountered this so thats the reason i am updating
The Library folder has many folders within it, like address book, sms, voicemail, email accounts. Save the entire Library folder, then piece back the most important items one at a time, while making a back up of the fresh restore/JB Library folder.
You apply your old Library folder to your new firmware, and once you sync with iTunes, YOUR computer will have all the info you put on the phone. If you are still having problems, do another restore, then all you have to do is sync with iTunes since it will now be on YOUR computer.
EDIT: It seems setting up iPhone from a backup causes problems for some, so you should set up as new if this works out for ya.

well, I got it done. Now in the process of reinstalling everything. I do have 1 small problem though. When i went back to Cydia and got the T-mobile carrier bundled and installed it, Edge works fine but i no longer ghave MMS. The area where the info for MMS was under settings is no longer there.
