Already on my second Iphone apparently the genius bar isnt very genuis
Had to exchange my phone because i was having the usage glitch/ battery charging problem. Soooo i make an appointment cause god forbid i just want to exchange it without having a guy troubleshoot a battery. My appointment was for 6pm, finally they saw me at 7pm I tell the guy whats wrong and that im having the same problem as many others are, he looked at me and said there arent any real problems with this phone. So i told him what i did to try and get it to work, luckly he didnt try also (i had to go see transformers again at 8pm). So i asked if a lot of people are bringing in there phone for the same problem, he said he hadnt noticed any patterns, then i asked what was the biggest reason, and he said the battery problem. I just looked at him and said i thought you said there were no patterns, and he said oh there isnt.
Needless to say some of the Apple employees are pretty clueless. BTW it was the apple store in King of Prussia, PA

Okay I just read a portion of a long thread over at MacRumors. I've had the same battery display issue where the green battery doesn't completely fill by the morning but I have seen the plug icon appear in the little tiny battery icon (upper right display corner).
My usage meter does change and shows the number of hours since the last full charge. I did have pretty major battery drain the first few days while I was using it nearly every minute and banging the wifi like crazy. I also was having some possible wireless router issues in my office where the iPhone seemed to be fighting to download everything and mail and safari pages would hang up routinely. For whatever reason it seems to have smoothed out and I get reasonably good downloading response as well as what seems like good battery life throughout the day.
I'll keep an eye on it this weekend though. I'm certain a very large part of the first iPhone software update will address the power management issues. The first iPod I ever had was a first gen mini and there were some strange battery issues with those which they cleared up with software fixes. They have a TON of control over the efficiency of the device and as we move forward they will figure out ways to conserve power.
