Itunes cannot detect iphone

Hi guys i really need you help.

I wanted to restore my iphone, but before Restoring it it need to be update. Once i clicked yes to the updating for some reason at the end a window came with an error. On my iphone theres an image on top the itunes symbol and down bottom and image of the usb cable. i guess this is telling me that the iphone needs connecting to itunes. So i have tried to reconnect the iphone to itunes, but it does not detect anything at all.

My itunes is fully updated i guess it would be version 9. I have called apple center and they werent very helpful.

Did they tell you to try another USB plug in? Or that you should uninstall everything iTunes related on your computer and then re-install it?

Same thing happened to me.....so download itunes and install it again, this happen to me aswell when I reinstalled I did not remove my current itunes I left it there fearing I would lose my library and during the reinstall of itunes I got a screen saying update I just clicked yes and my itunes and library of music was fine and it then noticed my iphone......(also i am on a mac just to let you know)
