JB Iphone Security risks?
Ok, I have read tons and tons of forums about JB Iphone and how to you can get hacked if you do not change your ROOT password. My question is, I JB my iphone but I didn't use SSH or I dont even have SSH installed on my PC. I JB the phone using BLackR4in and it was easy and simple, so does this still put me in security risk? do I still need to change my root password and mobile. Also what is ROOT password? if for some reason I want to restore my IPhone because i want to send it in for repair will they even check the Root password or mobile...and void my warranty ? thanks guys much appreciated

If you don't use/installed OpenSSH then you don't have a problem.

Like cadi said, if you do not use or have OpenSSH installed you have no problem. Now if you do choose to install openSSH, be sure to change your mobile and root passwords. There are few guides around here that will show you how. Furthermore, if you ever restore your iphone, these custom passwords will be reset to the default "alpine".

oh ok thanks guys, whew...
oh and one more thing....I've read that many users had problems with their battery draining too fast, well I got to use my iphone all day without it dying on me, but I didn't literally use it all day, the battery seemed to go down faster when I played with 3g and and text and stuff....
but also when I charge it i notice it would charge really fast? is that normal? i use a wall charger, I mean how long does it usually take to fully charge an Iphone, I was down 20% and I think in like an hour i believe or 45 minutes...it seem to be almost fully charged?

Every iPhone battery is different in charge times. My 3GS seems to charge very fast as well, but I do not experience any battery issues that are no fault of my own. Anytime you use 3G or use your phone out of standby mode the battery will deplete faster. If you set your phone up as a new phone every time you restore you should be fine. Most battery issue users complain of are caused from setting the phone up from a back up or restoring from a backup.

If you use SBSettings, you can also turn SSH off with that app.

sorry for the other post!
well i mean, I kind of dont want to restore the phone to new, cause I like it JB but.. i mean do you think restoring it to factory will greatly improve battery life?

No, you can remain Jailbroken. What I am speaking about is this.

When you normally restore an iPhone you are greeted with that window asking you if you want to set the phone up as a new phone, or restore it from a backup. If you set it up as a new iPhone then you are fine. If you set it up from a backup, then that is the root of most battery issues. Whether you JB or not should have no effect on your battery life.If I helped you, hit the

ok so i ran down my battery again, to 20% and i charged it rougly around 8:10 i check back about 8:30 and its almost fully charge i know you said every iphone battery is different...but do you think thats a little to fast of a charge? is something wrong?

What's an "almost fully charge"? The way these batteries charge is a fast charge up to around 80% then a slower charge to complete the cycle (100%).
I believe Apple's estimates are about an hour for 0% to 80% and another hour to 100%.
As Melech stated, everyone's battery will be slightly different. Be happy that your battery charges fast. If your battery lasts a sufficient amount of time, then no worries.
EDIT: Just an FYI: I had some battery issues with it draining overly fast and couldn't figure it out. I went into winterboard, deselected my theme, exited, then reselected the same theme. Worked great after that. Must have been a fluke.Last edited by joemamawilder; 11-25-2009 at 02:01 AM.
