Battery drain on 3.1.2
Well, after about 3 days of work my iPhone is back to normal. I upgraded to 3.1.2, unlocked it, jail broke, installed most of my stuff back and restored most of my missing files.
But, I seem to notice a much higher then previous battery drain. My phone took about 40-45% of battery life just in full stand by over night. That's a bit much, ain't it?
I looked at all my running processes and everything seems normal and nothing out of the ordinary.
Any suggestions? Keeping my iPhone plugged in 24x7 is kinda lame.
Previous to this when I was on 2.1.? the phone lasted all day just fine with fairly heavy use, but all the sudden this.

After you restored up to 3.1.2 did you set the phone up as a new profile in iTunes or restore from backup? If from back-up I suggest you start over and set up a new profile. This is theorized to fix the problem. If you set up as new then there should be no battery drain difference.
Edit: Usually after a restore most users will be on their phone A LOT more tweaking settings and downloading apps and themes, etc. Most people don't take this into consideration when reflecting on battery life.
Side Note: It's weird how almost every firmware that comes out has something about better battery performance or battery optimization. We should be getting like a month out of the battery by now after all this improvement!

I had many issues with battery life on my 3GS since day one. I have replaced the phone 3 times (once with Rogers and twice at the Apple Store) stating same problems with battery life each time. The phone I have now is much much better than the previous 4 phones. In standby overnight the battery barely drains, so that is a plus. I am getting better life for sure now, but still would like to see better.

email fetch to every 15 minutes
Hi and Hallo,
I had the same impression, but had my email fetch set to every 15 minutes.
It looks like that for some reason the wireless connection never stops, even when locked for quite some time.
Also I seemed to notice that it was getting quite warm on the back.
Now I got it set to fetch my emails (by the way 3 accounts) hourly and it looks like the battery hardly goes down with the percentage, except I play with youtube and so on.
Just give it a try and let me know if that makes it different for you.
Hope that helps
Dirk

Sorry to say but you should never restore from backup after upgrading, for some reason it almost always causes major issues. I would just make sure you have your contacts backed up to you computer, I use windows address book through itunes, and when I update I always start as new phone.
By the way I have a 2g iphone and my battery on 3.1.2 jailbroken with all kinds of mobile substrate add-ons, my battery will last all day at 100% on standby, and would probably last for days if I didnt play with it.Last edited by nicholasa; 11-20-2009 at 03:17 PM.

I feel your pain Samson...Ive had no battery issues, even after i jailbroke my phone 2 months ago. Now all of a sudden its draining fast (like 2% every few mins). Also draining while in standby it never used to do that. Im considering exchanging it however i purchased through AT&T (theyre no help LOL) and the nearest Apple store is 2 hours away

Oh well. . . . we will see, I guess. . . . It's been decent today.
This is great. . . . WTF? Really. . . . . .
Yeterday my phone was fine all day. The battery lasted 12 hours with moderate use and had 15+ % left.
Today, 3 hours off the charger in straight stanby. . . Sitting at 20%. . . . WTF gives?Last edited by samson_420; 11-21-2009 at 03:19 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Sereously WTF. . ? Full real Apple 3.1.2 flash, unlocked and jaibroken. . . .Yesterday the battery lasted me about 13 hours with fairly heavy use. . .Today, had my iPhone in standby, down to 60% in less then 2 hours - zero use.
I don't know what to do. . . .If this presists I will have no choice but to get rid of my 100% mint Ghost Armored 2G

Use your phone WITHOUT jailbreaking and see what happens. If it still doesn't last then swap for warranty. Sometimes the answer is actually faulty hardware and has nothing to do with firmware.

I HOPE you've set it up as new in iTunes after you restored again. Use the phone without installing a single app from Cydia. This would be the closest thing.

My battery took a serious dive when I upgraded to 3.0 and I didn't even know what jailbreak was back then.
