I currently own a 3g contract sim which I use in my 3g iPhone lol anyway if I was to purchase the 3GS would 02 charge me any extra on my tariff for it being the 3gs phone?

Assuming you'd purchase the 3GS without a contract there would be no additional monthly charges. If you purchase it with a contract then O2 would obviously require a new contract which, depending on how much you currently pay, might be more expensive.
