Iphone help - sync or not to?

Hey, so I recently inherited an iphone from a friend and am now using it. It is jailbroken (cydia is on it but says it needs alot of updates) and its unlocked and theres a couple apps on it.

I want to add more apps and such but the iphone apps I guess are synced to his computer? So If i try and add new ones Im afraid it will delete cydia (because it will resync to my computer) and it will no longer be jailbroken (Im a noob I don't know how this works).

Could someone please help me understand what to do to add more apps? Shuld I redownload cydia and all the apps and just sync it? or Do i have to restart the iphone to original and start over again or what?? HELP!

I'm fairly noob-ish as well and I figured I would try to help. From what I can tell, iTunes might, and the emphasis is on might, consider the lack of corresponding apps on your computer to be a sign that they are to be removed from the device. I think that this is the least likely to occur. Since a PC/Mac error could lead to loss of iTunes data and render your computer spooged, it wouldn't make sense that iTunes would wipe your device on next synch.

The alternative to this may be that iTunes on your computer is not familiar with your phone and thus since they have not been introduced, it might take your device at face value and consider it to be the default configuration thereby keeping all of the apps in tact on the device and merely backing up what you already have.

Either way, make note of what apps you have; getting replacements is fairly simple.

Syncing will delete music and AppStore apps but cydia will be fine.
