Apple refused warranty for 3gs (URGENT)
I'm for the most part an average iphone owner and member of numerous apple forums. As I've owned each iphone since the 1st gen each of which have had their fair share of problems all resolved by swapping for a refurbished model through apple. Yesterday I went to the apple of St. John's town center in Jacksonville with my under warranty 3gs and complained the phone was not holding a charge. The mac genius immediately inspects both the headphone jack and bottom port for water damage finding none he makes me aware that he will disassemble my iphone to further investigate for voids in warranty. After 20 minutes both the mac genius and store manager return claiming CORROSION on the logic board as well as signs of it being tampered with. They also claimed all internal indicators of water damage had shown positive. When asked to compare my iphone to another without the claimed damage they refused. I began explaining the phone was purchased through an At&t retail store and has never been opened aside from the mac geniuses inspection. Uninterested in the options of the out-of-warranty repair I was being offered I left the store and called apple.
Ultimately I had a close friend mac genius open my iphone and look for such claims HE FOUND NOT ONE. Why would these apple employees attempt to pull such a scam? My iphone is currently in my pocket has no signs of corrosion my logic board obviously was not tampered with as I have no idea how to perform such a task. And both water indicators are pristine ! My appointment is scheduled today at apple do I simply demand a new iphone ? Thank you for reading this and hopefully responding, can't wait to see the results after todays visit.

apple support explained this case has been very well documented and will be hard to fight, not to mention the next apple store is more than 100 miles away

If it's that far away I would just get all up in their faces and tell them to stop fuxing around with you.
Tell them that you know the immersion sensors are not activated, or that you want to speak to whoever is above the "genius". Threaten to file complaints with the attorney general, and the BBB.

This is awful and if it were me I would have called Apple following your appointment and also yes I would request a new iPhone.... (don't demand it but kindly request a new one) sometimes those mac geniuses think they know it all or pretend to.

I would have followed through with that threat if you we're in the right. I have had to dealing with a service department.
But yeah you can either keep trying for a resolution at the store or get one sent to you.

The logic board isn't exposed when opening on an iPhone... Are you sue that they didn't say the dock connection? Those are notorious for corroding went wet. As a former genius, with all the liquid damaged iPhones most of them have the LSI underneath the dock connection tripped.
I suggest that if you don't want to go the OOW route, file a claim with your home-owners and renter's insurance and have them replace it brand new at full cost (un-subsidized).

No one should have to put a claim on their insurance record to avoid letting some punk get over on them.

I don't know why Apple calls them "Genius'" most of the time there a pot smoking 18 year old. Apple throws around the term "Genius" way too much. I had a similar problem with my Black Macbook the paint was chipping off the idiot aka Genius refused and told me it was my fault. I went home called Apple a couple of times finally got it fixed.
Apple Genius' are just over zealous fanboysNEVER pay to have your iPhone unlocked or jailbroken, It's a complete rip off.

And what exactly are you claiming on your insurance? Also, insurance policies come with deductibles that wont be reached with an iphone...

Yes, getting 'all up in their faces' is a surefire way to get results from customer services all across the country
Sounds like you like messing around with iphones. I've had 5, and the only problems I've had with them is when I tried to be smart, open it up and mess about with stuff. Each time I've sold it for a loss and bought a new one. You should probably do that too, instead of shouting your mouth off cos you messed up yet againLast edited by redcard; 11-05-2009 at 01:17 PM. ^You missed the part where he said the phone has never been opened apparently.
People can't just run to another apple store. There are too few to begin with. The closest one to me is 5.5 hours away.

You missed the part where the Apple genius refused to replace it cos it looks like it had been opened up. I dunno about you, but when someone says they've had problems with several phones and had to get them replaced.... I'll bet 10 bucks this guy tried to open his phone up to replace the casing with a nice shiny purple one he got off ebay for a couple of dollars.
