iPhone 3G Battery heating concern

Whenever i try to play games on my iphone, the back the cover which I assume the battery is - heats up. Not cooking hot, but just warm.

I was wondering if this is normal ? Since then i stopped playing games which require high processing rates.

Yes. A normal amount of heat is to be expected. As long as it isn't hot enough to where it actually burns, you are fine.

Some apps really tap the phone's resources, so it will put out some heat.
