Locked o2 iPhones officially Unlockable
My dad tested the theory for me and it works, he put my mothers Orange sim card into his iPhone and it allowed him to download the Orange Carrier file and use Orange. I doubt it will work with the likes of Vodafone yet, nor T-Mobile or 3 as those two aren't going to be official.
I couldn't test it due to my iPhone 3GS being factory unlocked the only reason I knew about the new carrier file is because I have been with Orange for 1/2 months, simply click the update button on iTunes with a Orange sim card in your iPhone and it works.

Thats because his iphone is officially unlocked from Apple. Meaning it can run on any carrier.
If its factory locked, it wont work.

Ah....it seems since these are both UK carriers of the iphone it is working that way for some odd reason.
A google search popped up numerous threads about it working.
