Is this right? (Tether/Wifi on 3.1.2)

Am I correct that there is no way to tether/wifi with firmware 3.1.2?

I see that RYP says that it supports "3.1+" but that doesn't seem to be the case after the download/install.

This is with Itunes9, XP and an unbroken 3.1.2 firmware on a 3G (after various JBs & failed attempts to backrev the firmware).

Geohot just said on his twitter that blackra1n coming on the 4th seems to enable tethering again for 3.1.2

I had seen that & was wondering if it was my only option. I'm never installing another Apple update if I can get this SOB off of 3.1.2

I'm about 0fer 10 so far, but am now trying From the fingers of Jay Freeman (saurik)...

FYI to anyone in the same boat Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik) works like a charm (unlike everything else that I tried first).

All your data will be gone, and you have to do a restore. Don't sweat it, it does NOT upgrade to the latest firmware if you have followed the instructions(with the hosts file edit).

Not sure if this is a solution to your inquiry, but PDANET offers USB and WiFi tethering for free.

Update: sorry, realized late you're unjailbroken. This is not a viable solution for you.

Thanks for the Pdanet info. I can jailbreak no problem now. My main problem was that I was stuck on 3.1.2, but I'm now back to 3.0.

Have you used the PDAnet app? I'm in my trail of MyWi & it works fine-I was going to cough up the $10 when the time comes.
