Try this website, I'm using a few of their products and they work well.

PushGmail (a paid app from the app store) provides a pop up notification and sounds when you get new e-mail which shows the subject and part of the body - you can then close the notification or view mail in the app. I'm not sure if there are other ones for different e-mail accounts etc but I just created a gmail account to use with this and changed anything I want instant notification of to go to that account (ie facebook)

yeah - just like that. Thanks Robcoffee.
But I need it as an "addon" for the standard mail probram.. not as a additional one (well kay, only if that's possible).

Search around for Elert. It is a free jailbroken app that pops up an email bubble on both lock screen and springboard when an email comes in. It does not just stay on the screen though. Itneeds the RockYourPhone client on your phone to work.
It is so simple...but cool.
As tommyd75 mentioned above, another app from the same dev as Elert makes an app called Intelliscreen. It is not free, but it does allow you to customize your lockscreen to show email alerts, upcoming calendar entries, weather, etc.

I love you !
no really... you're great. Not exactly what I searched for but well.. better, since it displays the messages in a lower corner instead in the middle of the screen. Even tho the program isn't free (costs 0.99€ after 10 days trial) but that's not a problem at all.
Thank you very much.
