Default Can I manage music without iTunes?

Is there any way to manage music (and possibly videos) stored on the iPhone without syncing with iTunes? I don't use iTunes as my music player so it's quite annoying having to use it - particularly so since I have several Gb worth of app data (e.g. in-car navigation software maps, etc) which iTunes insists on, very slowly, backing up first. The perfect solution would be an extension allowing full control in Windows Explorer.

Ideally I'd use iTunes only for restoring and contact sync.

    Thanks.

well, there is no extension for windows explorer, since you cannot just drag&drop music on the phone. the iphone (as the ipods) keeps a database of your media to quickly find and sort it. has the disadvantage that you must use itunes, but has the advantage that the iphone can quickly access and sort all your media.
there are some third-party solutions that work similair to itunes, but you would end up with another program as well, so you might just want to use itunes. in the end, if you really dont want to use itunes, you can just sync your iphone once a month or something and use your normal music player to play music on your computer.
I would advise you to go with itunes though ... I thought it would be a pain in the ***** as well, but turned out itunes is pretty useable ... it's not the fastest music player, but it can do lots of stuff. fulfills my needs at least

The only time I see iTunes on my computer is when I sync. I use Itunes Folder Watch to manage all of my apps, ringtones, music, photos, etc. It monitors folders I create that I drag and drop to and from. If you remove something from a folder it removes it from iTunes. So all I have to do is sync and then close iTunes until my next sync.
