Hotmail issues help ASAP please

I can recieve emails just fine through the hotmail account but when I go to send them I get this

CANNOT SEND MAIL

"THE CONNECTION TO OUTGOING SERVER 'SMTP.LIVE.COM' FAILED"

Any ideas folks

it's 99% one of those things:

1) smtp.live.com is not the correct adress for hotmail's SMTP server

2) you checked "use secure (SSL) connection" even though hotmail doesn't use it, or you didn't check it even though hotmail DOES use it

3) the port for the outgoing server is wrong

edit: looked it up. you should use smtp.live.com with port 25 and secure (SSL) connections ON, authentitification "password" (which requires you to type in your hotmail account data)

thanks blackwolf the SSl thing was the issue. It's weird b/c it's stopped working out of the blue

pop3 is really strange sometimes. get a gmail account and use imap, it's so much cooler

I have a gmail but I use it only for contacts...i;ve had the hotmail for years and would be a pain to change now
