Iphone 3gs Activate?

Hi, I got a used Iphone 3gs its been jail broken at 3.1, but is not unlocked due to the new brand band upgrade, i was wondering if there was a way to activate it so I can use my ATT sim card on it? I put it in but it says no service

you can activate it via pwnagetool or redsnow, but that won't allow you to use your simcard. to use any simcard you need to unlock it and, as you said, that's not possible.

You say it's an AT&T sim card. Did you buy your phone in the US? If so, it's most likely an AT&T phone and there's no need to unlock anything. Your problem is that you don't have service activated with AT&T, that is you need to call them and have them set up a line for you. If that's not the case and your sim works fine in another phone, then you need to install iTunes and connect your iPhone to the computer.
