iPhone query
bear with me, i'm completely new to the site, so i don't know where everything is or where the quickest way to get the answer to my question is
but i have an iphone 3G, 3.1 software, and i was wondering if there was a way i could out my own sounds in, say if i wanted "LOUD NOISES" a la Brick Tamland to be screamed at me when i get a text message...

I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

You need to be jaibroken to SSH.
There's a guide in Cydia's home screen...I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

basically, it installs a program called "cydia" on your iphone, that allows you to install third party apps not approved by apple (for example openSSH with gives you full access to the iphone hard drive and system files). it also allows you to do stuff like install themes and mod your iphone in various ways (not all of them very stable though ;-))

The way to avoid warrenty issues is to do a complete install of the factory iPhone os a couple times prior to taking your phone in. This will remove all evidence that you have performed a jailbreak.
