iPhone query

bear with me, i'm completely new to the site, so i don't know where everything is or where the quickest way to get the answer to my question is
but i have an iphone 3G, 3.1 software, and i was wondering if there was a way i could out my own sounds in, say if i wanted "LOUD NOISES" a la Brick Tamland to be screamed at me when i get a text message...

If I'm not mistaken, the only way to add stuff like this in without a jailbreak would be SSH...but that's really something I have no idea about.

You need to be jaibroken to SSH.

basically, it installs a program called "cydia" on your iphone, that allows you to install third party apps not approved by apple (for example openSSH with gives you full access to the iphone hard drive and system files). it also allows you to do stuff like install themes and mod your iphone in various ways (not all of them very stable though ;-))

technically yes. but you can always restore your phone to factory default and apple won't be able to track that you jailbroke the phone ...

The way to avoid warrenty issues is to do a complete install of the factory iPhone os a couple times prior to taking your phone in. This will remove all evidence that you have performed a jailbreak.
