Tethering question

I noticed a post down a bit asking about tethering, but was very unclear. I'll try to ask this as clear as possible:

I'm currently visiting a friends house and he has internet access but no access points/routers. I would like to connect my iphone via USB and broadcast his internet connection through my iphone (essentially using my iphone as an access point).

The reason I don't just tether the phone to my computer is because it is just way to slow to be usable (no 3g here, just edge).

So is this possible?

To answer your question, and I know you won't like this answer: no, I'm afraid I don't think it's possible. I've even asked for it before: Reverse PDA net
