Do a hard reset on your phone by holding the home and power buttons
You may also need to reset the network settings in Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network SettingsLast edited by Melech518; 09-30-2009 at 10:49 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Yes, to enable tethering which is an option that isn't available by default means that u have to "mod" a file or setting that isn't available on ur phone to make it available...changing ur auto-lock means u just changed or modified your time....so yes u nodded ur phones auto-lock

I updated to 3.1 (with my 3GS) and then deleting the tethering hack, because it wasn't letting me get 3G network after the update, and I still have the tethering option under network settings. I haven't had a chance to test it out, but it's there… Thought that was odd, anyone else have this option as well? I don't have any profiles installed on my phone anymore and I still have tethering. It's non-jailbroken also.

help
Can you supply any details about obtaining this file??
Also - has anyone tried this - issues??
a simple link to more information and the ipcc file would be GREAT
Greetings
I have a 3Gs on 3.1
I applied your IPCC file (tried both the 6.0 and 5.5.1 rev1)
1) CProgram Files\iTunes>iTunes.exe /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1
2) start iTunes - connect phone - shift/check for updates
3) navigate to new ipcc file and click OK
4) reboot phone
When I look under settings->about - it shows the ATT 6.0 carrier file. When I go to general->network, I do not see any tethering options
Do I need to do a reset settings??
Thanks for your helpLast edited by dxe; 10-02-2009 at 09:34 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

By the way, PDANET does work on 3.1 but you have to upgrade your desktop version to 1.54 for the iTunes 9 compatibility.

I'm in the same boat. I am a Windows user and 'upgraded' my jailbroken 3GS 3.0.1 to a custom 3.1 firmware using the Shift+Update in iTunes. However, I lost the ability to tether. At first, the option appeared to be there under settings but when I clicked the toggle, it disappeared. Now I can't access any tethering or voicemail settings under cellular data network like I could before.
AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
Would someone please post a guide or give some clear directions as to how to fix tethering on a jailbroken 3GS running 3.1 OS.
Thanks
Every time I go through the forums looking for information on enabling tethering and I see this response, I get po'd. You smug little #$@%. Do you think this is helpful? Why even respond? Loser.
Melech, I pm'd StealthBravo and he informed me that tethering doesn't work with 3.1. I am using his 6.0 ipcc. How were you able to enable tethering on you 3GS phones running 3.1 software?
Thanks
When I used iFile to access this folder, the folder was blank, nothing there to edit. I do have a profile from Ben.m.at on the phone as well if that matters.Last edited by twitchthecat; 10-05-2009 at 03:36 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

3.1 Tethering
Do the people that claim that tethering on 3.1 works, actually test the functionality?
Whenever I enable the toggle to appear and attempt to tether it fails and the iphone os removes the tethering toggle. So even though you might see the tethering toggle it does not mean its working....
I just want to confirm once and for all if tethering works on a jailbroken iphone 3gs 3.1, and if so how did they get it to work?

I really wish I understood what's going on here.
I followed all the links here which linked to links. Loaded the tweaked 6.0 file, played in Terminal, SSH'd in..... I cannot get tethering running on my Jailbroken 3GS on 3.1. Nor can a zillion others also.
I'd really love to see some definitive directions on this but see nothing.
I see the toggle in settings. Toggle either dissappears or doesn't work. I've no idea what I'm doing wrong but .... really... How can just a few here be successful?
So it DOESN'T work after all? Toggle disappears as you say. This thread is 'the' most confusing thread I've come across to date.

Tethering does not work on 3.1 no matter what. I can make the toggle appear but it disappears when trying to enable tethering.
I have been working with some talented devs on a patch to bypass the bundle signature checks. Most likely you will see a patch come in the next jailbreak tool.

Thanks for the reply StealthBravo... Do you really think you will be able to reenable native tethering though?

So you have some special secret file or something that you're able to do what the thread title says?
I don't get it. You keep saying tethering works on 3.1 in this thread, yet it seems no one else can get it to work and you cite StealthBravo's instruct yet he himself says tethering doesn't work on 3.1
I was up till 3am trying to make something work that apparently had no chance of working so I'm confused.
STEALTH - Thanks for clarifying the situation.
