Default New iTunes account on iPhone

Ok so I just bought an iPhone from a friend of mine. I tried to install an app thru the app store, but its asking for the password for an iTunes account which isnt mine. Is there a way to reset the account on the phone or change the info so it will let me put my account on I can use it? Thanks

If there are apps/songs purchased on the previous account - those will be lost. Even free such.
Some surfing goes a long way. Here e.g.: iPhone and iPod touch: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store account
    Do hope that helps
