Dramatically increased performance
Can anyone tell me about the posts I've been reading from the General Iphone Chat forum that are titled "Dramatically Increased Performance on 3.0". Basically about removing other languages from your phone, other than English (For those of us that speak English). I just want to know how to do it. There have been so many posts, as far as I can see there's too much info (for me anyway).
Can anyone tell me in simple terms "How to",
Snige.

^^LOL.
Install OpenSSH and use some program to get into your iPhone then go through and delete all the .lproj (i think) files except English.I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

I'm still wondering how deleting language files should effect speed in any way ... but as long as people believe it works ...

They take up RAM.
Anything that takes up RAM slows down speed.I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

@Blackwolf. I agree with you-it doesn't make sense. But on my 2.2.1 with 20 different languages install there was a noticable speed improvement. Don't really know why and don't really care, but the improvement was real!!

Because accessing data stored in RAM is much faster than accessing it through the relatively slow flash hard drive. Simply put, if there's more RAM available, the iPhone will fill it up, leaving more power for other things, like the processor, to work.
A simple way to say it s that the language packs, which most of us don't need, are now replaced with useful data in the RAM, like apps and images.

Think about it, when an application opens it loads all the languages installed. When there are 30 its going to take x amount of time to process the 30 languanges and open. We are talking about trimming that down to 1 or 2 languages. I dont see why this concept is hard to understand.
We arent talking about speeding up the phone. We are talking about speeding up how fast applications open.
If you are too busy to read the other thread, then HOW IN GODS NAME ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS MOD??????Last edited by seh6183; 07-30-2009 at 04:12 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I also deleted most of my fonts in safari.... big waste of space there!
I have to say that I don't notice any big improvement, it does make sense to take out stuff you don't need to make room for the stuff you do.

^Well it isn't like a HUGE improvement but the improvement is there and you can feel it. After all the apps, it starts adding up.

So true. Every little bit helps -- although at times it appears the rewards are not worth all the effort

^ I agree. Use the other thread. Why start a thread to ask questions about another thread?
