jailbraked iphone and itunes!

Hi There,

I got my iPhone 3G unlocked and jailbraked,
when I tried to connect it to iTunes (I would like to install some free apps that I downloaded) I receive an error from itunes

'you must upgrade for release 8.2 or higher'

I run itunes 8.1.1.10 and I didn't upgrade to 8.2 yet, as I read that is not safe to upgrade to iTunes 8.2 with an jailbraked phone.

Is that true? Any help/suggestions?

I will upgrade to 8.2 and I will try to install the apps.

Sorry for the stupid questions, but i'm a first time iphone user!
so it's safe to install apps with itunes with a unlocked phone, the only thing to worry is NOT to upgrade or restore the phone's software, right?
