Please help im going insane

Right ive spent 6 hrs trying to fix it

ive a us iphone 4 gig iphone 2g thought it was broken but was clearing out a cupboard tonight and its powering up

it was unlocked in the past etc

but now all i can get it to do thanks to itunes is saying PLEASE CONNECT TO ITUNES

tried to restore it but takes a while and comes up with an error code 1601 i think

please please please please help

im in the south of england nr Bristol happy to drive to anyonelocal to sort it

Try to get it in DFU mode and then restore in iTunes. In case you need it, here are instructions for DFU.
DFU mode
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it detects iPhone in restore/recovery mode.

Alternative Method:
Step 1. Connect iPhone to USB then listen to the sound when it connects and disconnects.
Step 2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
Step 3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.

when i remove it from laptop power and plug it into the wall the white apple logo comes up and then scrolling text comes and goes then it keeps refreshing

getting it into dfu is easy but after that it wont restore

Completely remove iTunes and Apple Mobile Device support and then reinstall iTunes, and you may have to use 7.5 itunes.
