Slingbox and The Iphone
Hello everyone,
I am looking into diving into the world of being able to watch tv on my iphone. I've read a little bit on the slingbox, but am a little confused as to how it works excatly.
I have a few questions if anyone could answer them for me that'd be great!
1) is there simply an app that I can use to watch tv with without the box, or do I need to have the hardware hooked up to my home tv?
2) How difficult is it to set up once you get the box?
3) Where would be the cheapest place to purchase the solo, I saw somewhere it was the suggested box for the iphone.

1) Yes you need the hardware (slingbox) connected to your media box
2) It is easy to setup
3) Just shop around and see. The solo can handle one input, but the pro can handle multiple inputs at the same time, i.e. you can connect your satellite box, DVD player, xbox 360, anything that can be controlled by infared to the pro and then select between them.
The solo only has 1 input and one output. If all you want is your satellite/cable box hooked up to it then the solo should be fine.
The only thing to look out for is your internet speed. Make sure that your upload speed of the network that the slingbox is connected to is at least around 400kbps or remote viewing will result in 'Optimizing' every few seconds as the feed continuously buffers due to the slow upload speed.

Thanks.. I just thought of another one, my dad has a pre and I of course have the iphone.. is there any box that could accomadate both of us?
I'm thinking I may get it 'for him' for something and then use it as well.
Thanks for the heads up about the speed issue!

I dont know of anything and with the Pre being so new still i wouldn't expect anything for a while.
You could buy it for him to use on a computer from anywhere and hold out for the slingplayer for the pre, which will probably take a long whileThe Original Autobot of MMiJesus couldn't turn into a fire engine

Also two people can't be watching the sling at the same time. It disconnects the other user if they are watching. So if both of you watch a lot of TV I would get two slimgboxes

Ye correct, but you would have to be watching the same channel/programme/output at any one time.
