Push gmail...
I'm pretty sure someone has probably already figured this out...
But in consideration for those who haven't...
If you want push Gmail, set up a yahoo account, then set up forwarding to your yahoo account from Gmail, and VOILA!
You have push Gmail.
Also, Google Sync is pretty damn cool!
Enjoy.
You've got questions, I've got answers.

i had problems with yahoo when i had mine set up, it would take 10 mins for it to foward the emails.
fortunatly ive been using mobileme and it works flawlessly. when my free trial is up im not sure if im going to go with paid mobile me or just do the push yahoo or just have it check for new every 15 mins

It's true... I've had this "push gmail" for about a week now and the push works whenever it feels like it. Not worth it.

Dont worry I believe google is working on their own client and there is "G Push" that was just submitted to the appstore.

I don't think it is Google making the app. I believe it is being made by Tiverias Apps. The app will also be $0.99 but if it works it will be the best app to hit the store in a long time.

Oh sorry I misunderstood. Do you have a link regarding what Google is doing or their progress towards true mail push?

No
but I remember reading an article a few months back with a google exec and she was talking about the new sync service for contacts and calendar events. They asked her when we would see email push and she smiled and said something along the lines of "not to worry".
