iPhone 3GS from Australia

Hey,

My Uncle is in Australia for a vacation, and when he comes back, I have asked him to buy me an iPhone 3GS 32GB.

Now the thing, the apple site says that its unlocked.

But this support page, says that the phones are locked and can be unlocked on request.

My uncle will most probably pick it up from the Sydney Apple Retail Store, now the phones available there, are they locked to either Vodafone/Telstra/Optus, or are they Unlocked?

Would appreciate some help.

Also, can I use my Credit card (from India, its an "International" Credit Card), and order from the Online Apple Store in Australia, and get it shipped to my cousins place in Australia?
