Envelope icon at the top

I've got a new 3GS. I've never used a non JB phone and I've ways had Intelliscreen installed. Currently when I have a new email I don't get the envelope icon in he top right like I used to get showing me I had a new email. Was that an Intelliscreen feature or is there some way I can enable that on my non JB 3GS?

It was a feature of Intelliscreen (and a couple of free apps that did the same job more reliably ). Sorry, you're out of luck.
