Dropped iPhone, Cracked Screen..doH!
Cracked the lower left corner of my screen after a hard unprotected drop. The Bezel is still intact, everything works 100%. What are my options now? Ive heard conflicting reports that the entire front half of the iPhone has to be replaced?
I found this kit on eBay..does it seem like I could just use the front glass from it? LCD Screen Display +Outer Glass for Apple iPhone 2G - eBay (item 300324897409 end time Jul-03-09 01:33:37 PDT)

Not a very big deal if everything works.
If anybody things that their iDevice is bricked and are sure of it, the first question you need to ask is:
"Did you throw it against a wall?"

All you need is glass screen + digitizer, like:
Apple iPhone 3G Touch Screen Digitizer 8GB 16GB New on eBay (end time 28-Jul-09 20:06:10 BST)
Removing the front is easy, removing the glass from the black plastic frame is slightly harder but not to hard.
You can send it off to CPJR if your worried about opening your phone and doing it yourself. The Original Autobot of MMiJesus couldn't turn into a fire engine

Replacing the Glass and digitizer on a 2G is no joke. I have done 20+ 3G screens with no problem, but I will never attempt a 2G again. Just letting you know before you get yourself into something you cant get out of.

Its extremely difficult...we'll say basically impossible....to remove the glass on a 2g without breaking the digitizer. And the LCD is also together all in one part.
So you have to replace the entire screen assembly on a 2g which will run yeah around $130.

I sold a 2G a couple weeks back for just over £100 and it was in much much worse condition than that

Your best option is to sell it for around $150 or maybe more... And use the money to buy an iPhone 3G or 3GS. If you fix it you will have to spend around $130. If u already willing to spend $130, why not sell it for extra $150, so you will have $280 total, and you can get a 3G 8GB for around $250-$300. Upgrade!

Honestly, iPhone 2Gs with a broken front like that won't get you "150 or maybe more" these days now that it's the oldest and least capable of the triplets.
