Yes it is okay. If you notice on the iPhone charger it says, iPod USB Power Adapter.

one thing that I've noticed is that when charging is complete the large battery icon on the screen doesn't change to the familiar charged icon as on the iPod. But if you look carefully at the tiny battery icon at the top right of the screen it does change from the charging icon (lightening bolt) to the charged icon (plug) when charging is complete.

This is trivial, but I miss the little led that is on my MacBook magsafe adapter. I would really like that on the iPhone, then we could tell if it was charged without waking it. Also, how about the same thing for when its safe to disconnect: maybe make the led blink when its synching and steady when its not.

I stil have the firewire wall charger from my photo and I am unsure if it is ok to use with my phone. I seem to remember that when I used it compared to my usb wall charger. It would seem to charge faster.

Firewire chargers are just fine, I use one in my car every few days, and it does charge faster. The Firewire specification allows for much more power to the devices than USB, and the iPhone seems to take this just fine.
