iPhone 3GS compass

Hi,

Just wondered how many of with the 3GS have been using maps with the direction turn on.. Just seeing how good you find it when driving..

When I use mine it rotating left and right and when its not going that its generally shows me at angle of between 45deg to 90deg

I have re calibrated many times. restores 3 times

would like to hear from other 3GS owners

Thanks

I dont think that the updated google maps feature works very well at all. At least when I am driving it doesn't show the correct direction

sounds like the problem I am having. Shows me on the road, but the "V" is generally facing 45deg away from the direction I am going.. Just makes me wonder how this will effect Tomtom or any other sat nav system

^ I was wondering the same thing, I hope its not fully reliant on the compass because its accuracy isn't great. Hopefully Tomtom's app works great and is out soon

Mine is not too bad. It is definitely off, but fairly close when I am driving.

What's weird is if I use the compass.app it's right on the money. I use it for work at directv to sight in my dishes. But when I use it in maps it sucks, does the same as above, it's always pointing the V at the grass on my right.

Do other GPS's rely on a compass? My dad's adjusts once you start driving. I'm sure TomTom's app could work similarly to this.

im pretty sure dedicated GPS devices depend on gyroscopes but im not entirely sure. My 3gs does the same thing btw, hopefully it will be fixed in an update.

Mine doesn't work 100% either... Although I haven't tested it outdoors just yet. It's a bit laggy indoors, though.
