Stereo Bluetooth doesn't work, acts like mono earpiece

Ok, so I have had a pair of iluv's i913 bluetooth headphones since before the iphone came out and they work great for listening to music wirelessly. I tried pairing them to my iPhone, and everything worked great and they could connect. However, since this headset supports stereo (for music) and mono+mic (for phone) operation, I suspect my phone is having trouble knowing which profile to use so it just sends low quality sound only when using the phone, not the ipod. I would like to know if anyone has similar problems or knows of a workaround to this.
