    Default 3G S GPS question

    Hi would i be able to use the GPS/compass of the 3GS without a cellular network? I am taking a trip to Austria and Iran this summer and would like to use the gps but wont have cell working in those countries. thanks.

    I would think it is doubtful as the phone uses a combination of cellphone towers and satellites to determine your location. In addition if you turn off the radio in your phone or remove your sim card in order to avoid outrageous charges it will most likely disconnect the gps as well.

    Technically the gps will work, the problem is that the map data uses the cell network to get it's data, meaning you would see the blue dot, but no map in the background... lol. The compass should work though.
