Best way to "format" the iPhone?

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

I'm looking for the best method of wiping my iPhone completely clean. I want to remove EVERYTHING from it and reinstall the OS.

Something similar to formatting a hard drive. I want the original file structure back.

just restore in iTunes and it will be a fresh iPhone.

Thanks for the reply, will the restore even go in and remove all the odd files I have installed from my previous jailbreaks?

For example:

I was on jailbreak 2.2 and used an app to change my carrier name from AT&T to something else. Will a restore to 3.0 fix that as well as remove all the downloaded content that came from the jailbreak apps?
