Downgrade from 3.0 -> 2.2.1 always get 1604 itunes error

Does anyone have a way around this? I am trying to downgrade from 3.0 to 2.2.1 and everytime i've tried i get the 1604 error on itunes. I can get myself out of it easily by using quickpwn, but i have no success in actually getting it downgrading.

You must use dfu mode when restoring.
1. Hold home and power for 10 seconds
2. Release power button and continue holding home for about 10 more seconds.

You know your in dfu mode if itunes says something like ipod, waiting for ipod, and then iphone, waiting for iphone. Also, you may want to hit shift + restore and choose 2.2.1 to downgrade instead of let itunes decide the downgrade.

Do u have to be on itunes 8.1? I get an error saying i cant downgrade at all. Im on 3.0 gm seed software.
