Can I use the iphone as a skype handset?

I've got the skype app for the iphone but wondered if i could use the iphone as a handset for my mac version of skype. I dont have a bluetooth headset so when someone calls me on skype for mac, I have to use the laptop speakers/mic (and its normally closed with external monitor/keyboard so the sound loops).

As far as i know, skype on the iphone requires the app to be open to receive calls.

Is there a way to get the iphone recognized as a headset by the mac?
