I think if they did an aluminum casing with a matte non-slip / non-scratch finish it would be the most durable. The original had durability but the casing and bezel were easily scratched. The 3G is just pitiful after a couple months unless kept in a case all the time.

The reason the metal back was ditched was because the 3G has a second antennae - on the 2G the antenna was behind the plastic at the bottom, with the second antenna the whole back has to be plastic otherwise you would not have any 3G reception.

My guess as to what the next iPhone will look like?

Looks good. I especially like the glowing Apple logo. Not only would that kind of help with the camera, it makes it more like the Macs. Good work...
