How do I gain root access via USB?

The Problem: I have a jailbroken iphone 2G running 2.2.1 custom through pwnage. The phone connects via usb only to itunes, no wifi, no radio. Is there a way I can create a custom firmware through pwnage that included a program (i was told total commander would work) so that I can gain access to the root directory via usb?


or is there another way to do this, plz help
