Default Restoring backup from a jailbroken phone to a non jailbroken phone

I just received my new Iphone 3g last night. My friend had originally jailbroke my old 2g phone for me previously. I did a backup of my 2g so that I would be able to keep all my info and contacts. I guess doing a backup and syncing contacts are totally different because when I went to sync to my new phone, all my apps that were in itunes transferred over but none of my contacts did. So I did a restore and restored the backup from my old phone to my 3g. All of the contacts were now on my phone but also some things that were done on my 2g were now on my 3g. The banner at the top still had my custom banner on it and my lock screen background was the old one also, and my numeric battery is on the new phone. My question is, is restoring my 2g backup harmful? I also noticed I never see the 3g logo in the banner, just the E for Edge.

Also while I am on this subject, is there anyway to transfer apps from ********** to my new phone, does it have to be jailbroken first also?

And just one more thing, is there anyway to do a speed test to make sure that my phone is even working at 3g speed? I can honestly say it does not feel THAT much faster than my 2g that was loaded with apps.

Thanks in advance, this is definitely a very resourceful site

    1. We do not offer advice and/or support for pirated (stolen) apps.
    2. No it's not harmful to use a 2G backup for a 3G phone.
    3. Go into settings.. general.. .network.. and makde sure 3G is set to on. If you don't get the "3G" up at the top you most likely are not in a 3G supported area.

Ah thank you, it actually was not enabled. Weird, I would thought it was by defualt. In regards to the E foe edge, is that just carrying over from my backup or does the phone default to edge if 3g is not avaiable. And one more question (sorry so many), just to have a fresh restore, I can sync my contacts to itunes, do a restore, hit set up as a new phone, and then sync my contacts from itunes to my phone. I did notice though when I click sync, it asks where the sync from, I do not have an outlook account and my windows address book has nothing in it. It seems like it should be easy enough but this is the one thing I guess I am not just understanding. Basically what I am saying is that I have no contacts on my computer, anywhere, and I would like to put them on there so that I can transfer them to my new phone.

oh and my question was more of whether or not restoring a jailbroken backup on a non jailbroken phone would be harmful

When you sync you contacts to your PC you have to tell it which contacts to sync with such as windows address book, google contacts, yahoo contacts. Making a back-up of your iPhone does NOT sync your contacts.. it merely makes a plist back-up file of them in your iTunes library.

You can restore from a back-up copy and be just fine in most cases these days.
