Question about new iPhones...

So if there is a new iPhone coming out this summer, and you're not eligible to upgrade through AT&T will you still be able to get one at the original price?

Most likely yes. That's how it's been since the beginning, you will probably just have to extend your contract... again...

Think about this logically. Everyone that bought first generation iPhones was eligible to upgrade to the iPhone 3G for the same price as new customers. Why would this time be any different? Secondly, Apple would lose out on MILLIONS of iPhone sales if AT&T (and other carriers) were to refuse this upgrade. Lastly, it locks people into another year of their contract. Evidence says: Yes.. you will be able to upgrade.

Would an early upgrade entail having to give back your previous handset?

Have you ever had to give up your previous handset? Nope.
