hi iam manshood from india.iam planning to buy an iphone from usa through my friend who is studying there.i want to know that the iphone fom usa can be unlocked and use here in india.what is the price of iphone there in usa.please give me a reply.iam having a windows pc with win vista ultimate and iam using airtel connection in india.
wouldn't your friend be able to give you the price? you can't unlock it. the iphones for sale now will most likely have the newest modem firmware and it is not unlockable
Any first generation iPhone can be unlocked. Prices range from $200 - $400 US depending on condition and storage capacity. iPhone 3G's can only be software unlocked if they have not been upgraded to firmware 2.2.1. If bought new there is no way to tell what firmware is on the phone. If bought used you can find a few here and there for $350-550 USD.
Basically if your friend gets the thing from US, he gotta pay the early termination fee and all due to in-store activation which means no phone for atleast 1 month as termination fee can be only paid then. The whole contract termination will make the phone cost 450-500$ to you. When brought to India, it can be easily restored to 2.2.1 after jailbreak and "hactivation" and then unlocked using yellowsn0w. I use the phone i got from airtel and it's 31000 INR (8GB). If you get from US, it's gonna cost around 25000 INR + 1 month. So, it's better to get the phone from your local airtel vendor
