I have a iphone 3g who has been jaibroken and unlocked. So, it has the 2.2.1 software. The phone is stuck on the picture of the pineapple. I tried restoring it by pressing the alt key but itunes was saying the firmware file is not compatible. I was trying the 2 files I have already witch are:
iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw
and
iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw

So, now I dont have any idea what to do. All I see is Pineapple!!!!!!!!

Force into recovery mode first by holding home and power until you see the cartoon of steve jobs.. then hit restore.. or Shift restore to the custom firmware.

Yes I did that with the file names
iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw
and
iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw
and it said the firmware file is not compatible!????
