Voicemail

I just had a question regarding voicemail, so in bossprefs I had 3g and edge turned off, so I can increase the battery life.
And with those turned off, voicemail will never work, like it will never show me my missed calls. I thought for visual voice mail, all you needed was an internet connection, and can't wifi load up the messages? I missed a call and had them both off and then I went to VM and could not hear it, but then once i turned 3g and edge on, the VM appeared...is there anyway around this because I do not ever use 3g.

It's been my experience that Wifi doesn't work, you need to use cellular data to receive voicemail. Not exactly sure why, but that's how it's always worked for me.
