    Default Big question!

So I live in Maine where I am not even sure we have 3G possibility. My provider is TMobile and I have an unlocked jailbroken 1st gen Iphone. I am able to get a 3G Iphone but I want people opinions on if its even worth it for me? Basically I am asking why is a 3G better then a 1st gen. As many reason you can give me would be great! Thanks!

You can't get 3G data on tmobile. The only advantage would be better ear and external speakers. Draw backs include a piss yellow tint to the screen, a cheaply made plastic casing and slower overall system performance (in my experience through testing).

They fixed the low system volume on the 3G and in my opinion it makes all the difference in the world to upgrade. The onboard GPS is great as well.

Poseidon mentioned the yellow screen...which I don't even notice now. It looks normal...and mentioned the plastic case. The plastic casing doesn't bother me although the metal backing was sexier. As far as slower performance is concerned my 3G runs flawlessly.

Any accessories you may have might have to be replaced with those made for the 3G.

I personally was sold on the sound quality. I used a friends 3G one time and then immediately went to my carrier and upgraded. Never looked back.

Stick with your silverback. They are a lot more durable. I have a friend with a 3g and he's had his replaced already from a drop. I've dropped mine on concrete and it's still going.

I really think you're exaggerating the screen tint issue. My 3G looks great, even when directly compared to several v1 iPhones I've seen. That shouldn't scare away a potential buyer.

Personally I haven't had one problem with the plastic casing, but that's only my experience.

Now, the lack of 3G access would probably keep me away...
