Screen appearance when typing passwords

When I'm in any application (or web page) requiring a username and password, the password field exhibits odd behavior. Rather than replacing each character with an asterisk as I type, all characters just pile on top of one another (i.e., the cursor doesn't advance).

I guess it's not a big deal since the passwords do register, but I'd like to know if others experience the same thing.

can't say I've ever had this problem, when did it start happening?

not a common problem. try restoring
