I'm looking at my cable from my gen1 iPhone and the cable from my 3G. They're exactly the same.

2 for $30 being that they go for $20 a piece on apple.com and I believe more at the actual store.

they go for $19.99 + shipping @ the Apple stores website, so 2 for $30 is a good deal
