    Default 3G Glass replacement--difficult?

I want to buy a cracked 3G and replace the glass. I want to know if it is extremely difficult (professional only kinda deal). I have guides to do it, and I have already replaced a flex cable in a 2G before, but I want to know if this is a great undertaking for a 17-year-old. I know this is a hard question to answer, but my worry is utilization of obscure tools and such.

^Not really; once you get it open it's quite easy.

If you're getting a good deal, I'd highly recommend it.

Yup. You have to buy the glass/digitizer as one piece, but can be bought for less than $30 on ebay.

And like All Day said.....pretty simple (IMO).

Ok, sounds good. I've got my eyes on these two right here:

Apple Iphone 3G, 8GB, Screen Cracked, Works fine. - eBay (item 280309190068 end time Feb-06-09 08:37:09 PST)

    Apple iPhone 3G 8GB (AT&T) CRACKED SCREEN - eBay (item 330304750480 end time Feb-07-09 21:24:29 PST)

One of the things that made me kinda nervous was that at one point, I came across a listing in which a guy said he replaced a broken glass panel but killed the backlight in the process, and I would rather not do anymore damage to an already-broken phone.

Also, towards the end of the iFixit guide, they mention using a hair dryer and double stick tape? What's going on with that?

No hairdryer. You will want to order the adhesive that is meant for the glass/digitizer. It works the best.

Also, the guy who messed his backlight up is an idiot. Because the backlight LED's are part of the LCD, and the LCD is completely removed from the rest of the screen assembly and basically has nothing to do with swapping the glass.

ALSO....dont buy the first auction you have listed. That phone needs an LCD, which will run you around $90, plus possibly a digitizer AND the 3g damages internally quite easily with that kind of drop. AND, the guy is new....I dont trust them.

It's not often I get responses on forums that actually help me, thanks a lot.

Can you direct me to this "adhesive?"
