I can't hear anyone that I'm speaking to.. Iphone 3g

Hi guys. First of all thanks that you bother to read it.
So the issue looks like in the title. It happened to me about a month ago without no particular reason I mean I didn't drop the phone or anything like that.
Everything works great I can listen to the music anyway I want, with or without headphones, I can make calls and recive them, but unforunetly i can't hear anyone, they hear me properly but I don't hear them at all.
Yesterday I upgraded to 2.2.1 custom firmware but without any change. I tried all the possible software solutions including reseting,reinstalling etc... It didn't help plugin and unpluging the headphone jack as well.
So my conclusion is that it must be a hardware issue. I still have it on warrenty but I bought it on internet auction without recipe and I basically can't claim it. So my only option is to fix it by myself.
Anyway my question is which part of the phone coul be responsible for that? Is it headphone jack like this one:

I'm really desperate guys so I would be really appreciate if anyone of you would know what could it be.

No I can't :/ it doesen't work as well when I'm switching a speaker, while calling :/

You stated "Yesterday I upgraded to 2.2.1 custom firmware but without any change." Did you do this using the "upgrade" button or the "restore" button in iTunes? If you used upgrade then I would DFU restore to 2.2.1 before tearing into the phone.

I did shift restore.. but it's not a software problem, I'm in 99,9 %. The thing is which part need to be replaced.. I just don't want to buy the wrong one..

im having same problem with my iphone, i can't hear caller, tried speaker, head ph, ear peace all not working. tried to plug n unplug headph several times and even checked increasing volume its not showing head. Its not hardware bcoz i can hear engage tone from ear peace whn i try to dial my same number or whn som1 end cal!! ear peace, speaker and headph working fine other than calls, i can hear songs... even tried factory restore thru itunes, phone settings... removed all installed softwares... My iphone s factory unlocked but widout warranty as the factory unlocked version is not officially launched at our place ... and yes please note thr s no water damage, nor dropped and phone is almost new 3 weeks. any solution, please help...
