Question [HELP] Iphone 3G 16GB .. itunes don't read it.

i used to have a iphone 3g 8GB and it worked prefectly fine in the same computer im currently using.

    WHAT OS AND ITUNES?
I am using Window XP 64 BIT Professional.
    and ITUNES 8.2

YES.. i know there isn't a VALID installer from apple for window xp 64 bit but there is one for window xp/vista 32 bit and window vista 64 bit. for godsakes i don't know why there isn't one for window xp 64 bit?!

anyways i followed a guide that unlocks the 64 bit xp version but can't burn dvd .. but it did connect iphones etc.

    PROBLEM
After i got this new iphone 3G 16GB recently.. i plug in my cable to the computer.. it charges and shows the battery screen and then i get something on my window that said
"APPLE CAMERA CONNECTED" choose which to open or cancel?

but when i open itunes it doesn't find my iphone..
does anyone know why?! i need help on finding out why it doesn't show my iphone on itunes.. anyone had this problem? please help.

I know its not the phone problem because i let my brother try it on his window xp 32 bit laptop and it works PERFECTLY..

i plug my ipod 30GB 5th generation and it works perfectly fine on itunes..

but somehow .. when i plug my iphone 3G 16GB to my computer.. it shows its connected but somehow itunes don't pick it up!

    WHAT I TRIED:
    i tried unistalling, and reinstalling.
I tried the help page from apple support
    NOTHING WORKS SO FAR.

please help if you can. has anyone had this problem? thanks.

Your computer recognises the iphone as a camera device.Try this:

*Right-click "My Computer" & select Manage
    *Select Device Manager
*In the right-hand pane, expand Imaging Devices&select the iPhone (camera)
*Right-click the iPhone camera & select Properties
    *Click the Driver tab
    *Click "Update Driver..."
*When asked if you should connect to the internet, select No,not this time
*Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
*Check "Include this location in the search" and point it to:
    CWINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_4351B7DAFF62F D33510D77DFAE3CF8CC82517571
    *Click Next
*The driver should install and now when you open iTunes you will see your iPhone.

I just received my first iPhone today - 3G 16 GB - and have the exact problem described in this post. Unfortunately, the above solution did not work for me. When the Hardware Update Wizard searches the directory

    CWINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl64_624495DBD130A7 74A35BA4F7A1D2ED9D4381DBF7

that contains the usbaapl64.sys driver, I receive the message:

"The wizard could not find a better match for your hardware ..."

Please help! I have firmware 2.2, iTunes 8.0.2.20 and Windows XP Professional x64. Please also be patient as I have little experience installing or updating drivers, and this is my first forum post.

iPhone requires two important pieces of software to operate properly on Windows.1st the driver must be installed;for iPhone the driver is USBAAPL.SYS.2nd,Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed as a Windows Service.
Check them out if they are properly installed...

    Thanks for the fast reply!

Apple Mobile Device service is running (Computer Management->Services shows it as Started). Does this mean that it is "properly installed"?

I do not believe that the USBAAPL64.sys driver is "properly installed." When I go to Device Manager->Imaging Devices->Apple iPhone->Properties->Driver Details, I see three drivers in CWindows\system32. When I click Update Driver and tell the Hardware Update Wizard to search for the best driver in

    CWINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\usbaapl64_624495DBD130A7 74A35BA4F7A1D2ED9D4381DBF7

it says "the wizard could not find a better match ..." Apparently it doesn't recognize the USBAAPL64.sys driver in that directory as a better driver than the windows drivers that are not working. Is there a way to force my Windows XP Pro x64 OS to use the USBAAPL64.sys driver?

    Some additional background:

    1. My new iPhone 3G 16 GB works in every way other than as an iPod. My work IT staff configured it to receive push mail from our Outlook server, etc. I am the first at my company to experience the joys of trying to get iTunes and iPhone to work with Windows XP Pro x64, which is apparently not supported by Apple.

    2. I followed instructions at yukichigai - Making the iPhone work in XP x64 - A guide for lovers to install iTunes 8.0.2.20 x64.

Suggestions? Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, either a different version or in a different way?

    Thanks!

Never mind! I had the answer in my own post. I just had to redo the final instructions for getting iTunes to work with XP x64 at yukichigai - Making the iPhone work in XP x64 - A guide for lovers:

    * Open System Properties (in the Control Panel, or right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties"), then go to the Hardware tab and click the "Device Manager" button.
    * Next find the section "Imaging Devices". Double-click it to expand it, then right-click the "Apple iPhone" entry and go to "Properties".
    * Go to the Driver tab and click the "Update Driver" button
    * When the Hardware Update Wizard opens up, it may ask if you want to connect to Windows Update. select "No, not this time" and hit Next.
    * On the next screen, select "Install for a list or specific location" and click Next.
    * On the next screen, select "Don't search..." (blah blah blah) and hit Next.
    * The next screen should show you two entries, "Digital Still Camera" and "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver". (or similar) Select "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" and click Next.
    * After a while you will be presented with that same "this driver might make your face melt off" warning screen from earlier. Click "Continue Anyway". (Though if you do I can't guarantee that your face won't melt off)
    * When the install process finally completes hit Finish, then close out all the windows you've opened.

Two weeks ago, when I did this the first time, I didn't yet have my iPhone (nor did I know I was getting one).

    Victory is mine!
